Please note that membership of CAA is for a calendar year. If you join between 1 January and 31 October, your membership will be for that calendar year in which you joined. If you join between 1 November and 31 December each year, your membership will be carried forward to the following year calendar year. Members have until 31 March each year to renew their membership for the current calendar year. After 31 March, a new membership must be applied for. It is a condition of your membership that you acknowledge the following: that the Careers Advisers Association of NSW & ACT Inc (ABN 58 877 417 536) ("CAA") reserves the right to change your membership category at any time in its absolute discretion should CAA determine you are not eligible for the category applied for or notified at any time during your membership. Your use of the CAA website at www.caa.nsw.edu.au is, and all emails you receive from CAA are governed by the CAA Website Terms of Use. You acknowledge and agree to comply with the Constitution and Code of Ethics of CAA and any other policies, rules and regulations applicable to members of CAA from time to time and you agree to undertake continuing professional development (if applicable) as required by CAA. You acknowledge, where applicable, you have complied with the professional development requirements for the prior year of membership.

 Benefits of Membership

As a member of CAA, you will receive, among other things:

  • Our E-Newsletter generally emailed fortnightly during NSW Government high school terms which contains information on: Upcoming events and courses of Universities,  Private Colleges, Registered Training Organisations; Company Work Experience Programs available for students; Scholarships; Apprenticeships and Traineeships on offer; Early Entry Access Schemes; Upcoming Tertiary Expos, Information Sessions and Open Days for Students and Careers Advisers; UAC news; New and Existing resources available for students and Careers Advisers.
  • Access to the Members Only section of our website which contains a hive of resources for Careers Advisers;
  • Access to our online professional development activity log where you can record your professional development;
  • Access to CAA Conference Presentations and resources;
  • Access to online discussion forums with other Careers Advisers;
  • Access to a range of online e-newsletters from tertiary providers;
  • Access to our "Resources" section which contains resources in the areas of DEEWR, Publications, Commercial Products, Journals, Resumes, Careers Testing, Jobs in Industries, Institution E-Newsletters, Catalogues, Tertiary Course & Faculty Guides, Disability Resources;
  • Access to our online calendar containing event information (information sessions, open days, workshops etc) for most universities and private colleges where you can elect to “follow” events to receive a fortnightly email reminder of events you have selected. Reminder emails are sent at the start of each month for events coming up the following month, as well as two weeks before the events you have selected;
  • Newsletter Creation Tool - You can create your own customised newsletter for your students and/or parents containing specialised, relevant information on information seminars, open days, courses, expos etc. You can filter events to just see those relevant to you, those which are within your area or those from specific types of providers. You can filter events relevant for a particular grade (ie year 12), or multiple grades. The options are endless! Events and cut off dates are auotmatically filtered from all information in CAAs online calendar according to the paramaters which you set.
  • Access to our “Job Corner” where you can view careers positions advertised by Public and Private Schools and upload your own job ad if you are looking for work;
  • Our Journal, Prospects, sent twice a year which contains articles and information for Careers Advisers;
  • Discounted members rates to attend our Annual Conference;
  • An opportunity each year for eligible members to nominate for the Career Adviser of the Year Award, the Hilary Bolin Award and the Margaret Gambley Medal – each acknowledging significant contribution to careers;
  • Access to free and subsidised CAA organised Professional Development activities and industry visits for eligible members;
  • Access to our Professional Development Grants for Networks of CAA, when offered;
  • An opportunity to chair sessions at Conference, be part of the CAA Executive Committee or Sub-Committees (Professional and Life Members Only).

 

 Categories of Membership

We have four categories of membership listed below. The Careers Advisers Association of NSW & ACT Inc shall change your membership category at any time during your membership if you are deemed ineligible for the membership category applied for or given to you on joining or renewal.

Professional Membership - A person who holds the position of careers adviser responsible for career education in a New South Wales or Australian Capital Territory government or non-government school; and possesses an endorsed Graduate Certificate in Career Development (or an equivalent qualification, or higher) or have been approved by the Association’s Executive Committee to hold a professional membership in accordance with the ‘Guidelines for Alternative Pathway to Professional Status: Policy and Procedures’ (See below for more information on alternative pathways)

Associate Membership - Persons who work in a career development field complementary to and in support of career education in a New South Wales or Australian Capital Territory school and possess an endorsed Certificate IV in Career Development (or an equivalent qualification or higher); or  have been approved by the Association’s Executive Committee to hold an associate membership in accordance with the ‘Guidelines for Alternative Pathway to Associate Status: Policy and Procedures’

Affiliate Membership Those who do not qualify for Professional or Associate Membership and who maintain an interest in and support for career education in schools.

Retired Members Membership - For existing members of the Association holding a current membership who are retiring and will no longer be working in any significant capacity in a careers field as determined by CAA.  Not Applicable $27.50 (Incl GST)

 

Alternative Pathway To Membership: There is an alternative pathway available for people who do not possess formal qualifications but who have sufficient other relevant careers experience which deems them eligible for professional or affiliate membership. Before submitting an application for membership via alternative pathways, please review the flow chart to see if you are likely to qualify.
